Wilson, Mrs David
Chambers records that after a night of jollification in a tavern in the High Street of Edinburgh, Burns and the painter Nasmyth walked to Roslin, where they breakfasted at Mrs Wilson's inn. In gratitude for their meal, Burns wrote two verses on the reverse side of a wooden plate: "My blessings on you, sonsy wife; I ne'er was here before; You've gi'en us walth for horn and knife, Nae heart could wish for more. Heaven keep you free frae care and strife, Till far ayont fourscor; And while I toddle on thro' life, I'll ne'er gang by your door."
