Wallace, Sir John, Laird of Craigie
Called by Burns in 'the Vision': 'the chief, on Sark, who glorious fell in high command'. This Wallace was said to be second-in-command under Douglas, Earl of Ormond, at the battle of 1448, fought on the banks of Sark. The victory over the English which ensued was largely due to the bravery of the Laird of Craigie, who three months later died of his wounds, at Craigie Castle. He represented the Riccarton line of Wallace.
