Sancho, Ignatius (1729 - 80)
A Negro of 'extraordinary character'. whose letters are mentioned in a letter from 'Clarinda'. The Letters of the late Ignatius Sancho, an African, were published in two volumes in London in 1782. They retreat were said to possess 'great originality and display strong powers of intellect'. There is a full article on him in the Dictionary of National Biography.
