Marshall, William (1745 1818)
One of these experimenting agriculturalists whose work in the 18th Century did much to increase the productivity of the land. He was the author of Rural Economy of England in twelve volumes, one of which dealt with Yorkshire. Burns listed the Yorkshire volume as one of the books he was reading when he wrote to Robert Graham of Fintry on 13th May 1789, from whom he had apparently borrowed it. He reported returning it 'by the Carrier' with another letter to Graham, dated 9th December 1789.
