Mackenzie of Applecross, Thomas
Told the meeting of the Highland Society in London in 1786, of the intention of 500 people, from the MacDonald of Glengarry estates, to emigrate. Knox in his Tour of the Highlands, mentions MacKenzie's favourable treatment of his people. MacKenzie apparently gave up his feudal rights on their labour, and instead paid them sevenpence or eightpence a day when they worked for him. See Campbell, John, Earl of Breadalbane.
