Hall of Dunglass, Sir James, 4th Baronet (1761 1832)
A chemist and geologist. He wrote some papers in support of the Huttonian theory of the earth, and was President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for some years. His son, Captain Basil Hall, was a friend of Sir Walter Scott. Burns had breakfast with Sir James when on his Border Tour.
