Graham, Douglas (baptised 1738; died 1811)
Leased the farm of Shanter, between the Maidens rocks, in Carrick. Burns met him there when he was visiting John Davidson. Graham owned a boat the Tam O'Shanter, which it was believed he used for contraband purposes. He was probably the prototype of 'Tam O'Shanter'. He is reputed to have been as fond of drink as his superstitious, irascible and rather eccentric wife (nee Helen M'Taggart) was opposed to it.
