Ferrier, James (1744 1829)
Father of Susan Edmonstone Ferrier, the novelist, and Jane Ferrier. See Ferrier, Jane. A writer to the Signet and, from 1802 26, principal Clerk of the Court of Session. He was one of the poet's circle of friends in Edinburgh. He built a house in George Street, near St Andrew's church. In its day it was the most westerly house in that district, and his fellow lawyers considered that it would injure his business to live so far out.
