Dungeon-clock, Ayr
In 'The Brigs of Ayr', there is an allusion to 'the drowsy Dungeon-Clock'. This clock was on the Tolbooth steeple, or Old Jail of Ayr, which was in the middle of the Sandgate. Because it was obstructing the traffic, the entire building was taken away in 1826.
