Doig, David (1719 — 1800)
Rector of Stirling Grammar School, when Burns had supper with him and some others on his Highland tour. Doig had been educated for the Church before becoming a teacher. He contributed articles on classical and oriental literature to the Encyclopaedia Britannica,and had a long controversy over the origin of civilisation with Lord Kames. Burns described him in his Journal of the tour as 'a queerish figure, and something of a Pedant.'
