Black Monday
Writing to Gavin Hamilton on 7th December 1786, Burns, remarking on his growing fame, told him: 'You may expect henceforth to see my birthday inserted among the wonderful events, in the Poor Robin's and Aberdeen Almanacks, along with the black Monday and the battle of Bothwel Bridge.' Black Monday — Easter Monday, 14th April 1360 — was the day on which an English army, besieging Paris, suffered heavy losses as the result of a great storm.
