Allan, Jean, nee Brown or Broun
A half-sister of Burns's mother. The poet stayed with her and her husband when James Armour took ou9t a warrant to ensure that Burns supported his anticipated child by Jean. As the poet had no money, he expected imprisonment, and therefore sought shelter with the Allans. He wrote to Richmond from their house, which Burns called Old Room Ford - 'room' or 'rome' meant a small farm, and Food is possibly a corruption of 'Forest' or even 'Fairlie' - on 30th July 1786 telling him that he expected to sail on the Nancy for Jamaica within three weeks at 'farthest.
